Covid-19 Relief Appeal

”I grew up working in La Policlínica hospital, so I believe that you have to provide healthcare for all people. The poor need education and chances to learn how to work, but first they need health to have a good life of dignity.“

Sister Maria Rosa, Founder of Sociedad Amigos de los Niños

Last Chance to Donate to Our COVID-19 Appeal!

As you might know, our beloved Sister Maria Rosa passed away on October 16 at the age of 93. Her legacy lives on in tens of thousands of Honduran lives saved by her social, education, and job-training projects. She also changed the lives and hearts of all the North American mission travelers whom she invited to share in her work of love and redemption and to stand in solidarity with the poor. We’d like to offer one last opportunity for you to contribute to FHC’s COVID-19 Relief Appeal in her name.

COVID-19 continues to hit Honduras very hard. Despite very strict lockdowns, its hospitals and fragile healthcare system are in collapse. Medicine, food, and PPE are in short supply because the borders have been closed for months. CNN International featured Sister Maria Rosa in a story about the pandemic in Honduras, and the board president of Sociedad Amigos de los Niños (SAN) recently recorded this appeal.

However, we have some great news to share in our efforts to support Honduras! FHC Indiana was awarded a $2,500 grant for COVID relief in Honduras by the Power of 1, an Indiana-based organization, who partners with not-for-profits to provide funding for a variety of projects in the developing world.

But we still need your help! If you haven’t had a chance to donate toward PPE, COVID testing, cleaning supplies, and healthcare for Sister Maria Rosa’s children, you still can. We will be collecting donations until Friday, December 4. Thank you in advance!.

To support this appeal, please donate online or send a check to Friends of Honduran Children, Inc., P.O. Box 501213, Indianapolis, IN 46250.

Muchísimas gracias from the Board of Friends of Honduran Children, Inc.

P.S. Hurricane Eta and massive flooding left parts of Honduras in ruins last week.

SAN’s children in Tegucigalpa and Nuevo Paraíso remain safe and experienced little damage from the storm, but the north of Honduras and many rural villages are in bad shape. While FHC continues to focus on COVID relief for SAN’s children and workers, we can direct you to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ohio (www.bethlehempemberville.org; click on Mission Honduras) if you’d like to contribute also to hurricane relief, some of which is being organized by adults at SAN such as Cato Elvir.
